It’s that time of year again! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is upon us! While today is just a preview, the actual shopping will begin later this month based on card status.
July 12: Early Access for cardmembers with Icon status.
July 14: Early Access for cardmembers with Ambassador status.
July 16: Early Access for cardmembers with Influencer status.
July 28: Anniversary Sale opens to the general public.
I have been shopping this sale since I was a child and I love stocking up on essentials during it. One thing I always look for during this sale is the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Body Lotion Pouch. This is my favorite lotion and you will not find it priced lower or at a greater volume than at the Anniversary Sale. I also like to treat myself to a new dress, workout clothes and boots and shoes for Fall.
This is also a great time to stock up on gifts. I always get several sets of candles, pajamas, bathrobes and blankets because they make beautiful gifts and it is great to get them on sale.
What are you shopping for at the Anniversary sale?!
The Fourth of July is just one week away. To prepare for patriotic celebrations of all kinds, I’m sharing my favorite red, white and blue styles today. From the pool and the beach to a bbq or dinner with friends, I’ve got you covered.
I personally love wearing a beautiful dress for the fourth because not only are they incredibly cute, they are also great for a hot day. If you’re hitting the pool or the beach, order this red swimsuit and white tunic cover-up ASAP! They are currently on a major sale at J.Crew and with luck, you can have it by the fourth.
However you choose to celebrate this year, I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday!
J.Crew is having a major sale this week! By using the code “BestSale” you can get up to an additional 70 percent off of sale styles that are perfect for summer. I stocked up on swimsuits and easy-breezy styles for the hot summer ahead of us.
I’m sure you all know this by now, but I LOVE J.crew. The clothes fit me perfectly and I think they are really well made. That being said, I never buy items there at full-price because they have sales all of the time. Also, if you’re a student like I am, or a teacher, you always get 15 percent off of your purchase so don’t forget to utilize that!
Although it says “end of season sale” most of the clothes included are dresses, swimming suits and summer clothing so it is the perfect time to buy them.
Here are a few new items I’m loving from the sale this week:
This past weekend, my baby boy, Saint Charles “Charlie” McAshan, turned one! As many of you know, this little boy has brought so much joy to our lives and we were so excited to celebrate him. Although I did a terrible job of taking photos, I wanted to share the planning process and outcome of the party with all of you!
To celebrate this little boy properly, we decided to throw him a party! After a little discussing, we decided to make the theme of Charlie’s party frogs because of his obsession with his little frog toy. Nearly every day, Charlie will start crying at the base of the stairs and it’s because he wants his little frog from upstairs. It is literally the cutest thing so we went all in on the frog theme.
We wanted the party to be laid back so we ordered Torchy’s tacos for guests to snack on, served popcorn in these cute boxes and I made a fun dessert called “Frogs in the Pond” it is kind of like Worms in Dirt. We had a bunch of kids at the party and it was a hit with them, also the parents were ok with them eating it.
In addition to the food and snacks we served, I also ordered a custom cake from Hayley’s Cakes and Cookies for guests to enjoy. When I say we were blown away by how amazing it was, that is an understatement. I gave the Hayley’s Cakes team a very brief description of what we wanted and they created the coolest and most amazing cake for our boy!
To be honest, of course we were excited to celebrate our sweet Charles, but it was also our first chance to celebrate with friends at our new house since we moved in last spring. In total, we had about 40 guests at our house throughout the day and it was an absolute blast. We are so thankful for my dad–who flew in from Montana and helped set up most of the party, and for our amazing friends and neighbors who came by to celebrate with us!
Hope you all loved seeing our baby’s first birthday party!
Memorial Day is the unofficial beginning of summer in my mind and with these soaring temperatures in Austin the past few days, I’m officially declaring it summer a few days early. Luckily, with the summer heat comes easy breezy styles and lots of color so today I want to share the items I am loving and eyeing for the summer months ahead.
For the summer, I love transitioning to a new signature scent. Byredo’s Gypsy Water is a sultry, yet refreshing scent that is so beautiful during the summer months. I’m also switching my nail color to my favorite new shade of pink! I love this color because it is sheer, but a striking pink.
My favorite look for the summer is this linenset. I’ve paired it with my new handbag for the summer, my favorite Hermès sandals and of course my Celine dupe sunglasses. I love this set because it is sophisticated and so comfortable in the heat. Another handbag I’m dreaming of this summer is this little Goyard bucket bag. I think it is so chic and would be perfect for any occasion.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I’m a big dress person. I love dresses because they are not only beautiful, but so easy to wear in the hot months of summer. I’m currently dying over this Palm Tree print maxi dress–how great would this be for a summer dinner? And I cannot wait to get the rainbow print maxi dress from Staud. The pink smocked maxi dress will be a staple for me and I’ll be wearing it everywhere from church to dinners and brunch with my friends. Of all the dresses, this blue and white maxi dress from Le Superbe will be my most worn this summer, I’m sure. Blue and white stripes are just my aesthetic.
If you’re hitting the beach soon, I can’t recommend this combo enough. While I love a swimsuit and matching pareo, I think pairing a solid one-piece with this gorgeous Agua by Agua Bendita Pareo would be stunning.
Which styles are you loving for the summer? Leave me a comment and let me know!
LWD–also known as a little white dresses, is a staple for the summer months. Whether you’re in the Texas heat or fresh mountain air, a little white dress is the perfect ensemble. Because I’m in the heat most of the summer, I prefer not to spend too much on mine. Today, I’m sharing my favorite white dresses that are all under $50!
Hope you loved all of the dresses and have a great weekend!
Father’s Day is almost here! If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a daddy’s girl.
I’m so excited this year because my dad will be in Austin this Father’s Day so we will get a chance to celebrate with him in person this year. Although one day is not enough to celebrate the dads in our lives and thank them for all they’ve done for us, it is a nice place to start. Depending on the interest of the guys in your life and your budget, I’ve shared a few of my favorite gift ideas for this Father’s Day below.
Many of you probably know by now that the men in my life are golfers. Golfers are so hard to buy gifts for because they are so specific about their gear and I believe there is a limit to how many polo shirts and hats you can buy for one person. I love this golf inspired cookie set from Etsy and if you’re looking to splurge, I have it on good authority that this Tag Her golf watch is the next hot thing for golfers.
For the grilling and cooking dads, you can’t go wrong with a great set of knives, grilling tools or even a grill. Bluetooth speakers set the mood for a big day of cooking so if you want to save, check these speakers out and if you’re looking to splurge, check out this Sonos system. If your dad or hubby is a wine lover, a nice bottle is always a great gift.
If you’re shopping for a man on the go, Yeti Ramblers are a fabulous gift and also the Yeti Cooler Bag makes a great gift. Chick-fil-a gift cards are also a fun treat.
Will has also fully stepped into his life as a dog dad so we can’t forget to celebrate the fathers of our furry ones this year! I love this little mug because you can upload your pet’s pic to personalize the mug. Both of my grandfathers have passed so unfortunately I can’t celebrate with them this year, but I love this personalized handprint frame for the grandpas.
My Dad always told me that he only wanted a card for Father’s Day so however you choose to celebrate the dads in your life, don’t forget the cards! It’s the best way to say thank you for all they do and to express your love for them. Hope you all have a great Father’s Day!!
Summer is on its way, y’all! There are so many things I love about summer, but my favorite is probably all of the beautiful dresses I get to wear during the season. This year I’m more excited than usual because I can actually go out and wear my dresses in public now that COVID restrictions are relaxing.
When I’m shopping for summer dresses, I love getting them for a good price because in the Texas heat, you can sweat through them quickly. Here’s a round up of my favorite summer dresses for under $100!
Which dress is your favorite? Leave me a comment and let me know!
As the world opens back up, I feel like I have been traveling, eating and drinking alcohol so much more than I have for the past 14 months. Although it has been great to see friends and family again and get back to the things we used to do, the recent over-indulgences have left me feeling bloated, tired and achey. To reset myself, I decided to eliminate alcohol, coffee, gluten and processed foods for one week.
One of my all time favorite things in life is a piece of peanut butter toast in the morning. I love sourdough bread, but I decided to swap gluten for protein this week so for breakfast, I alternated between my favorite yogurt bowl: Fage O% Milk Fat yogurt, Kind Granola, cinnamon and local honey and eggs with freshly made salsa.
For lunch I mixed it up by making a smoothie or ordering from Sweet Green or Chipotle and I decided to get the most creative with my dinners for the week. I didn’t realize it, but Will and I normally eat quite a bit of gluten so it was a bit of a challenge to eliminate that for a week of meals. Since I never know what our weekends will bring, I only plan meals Monday through Thursday night, here’s a look at what I made for the week!
Monday Dinner: The Defined Dish Mushroom Lettuce Cups. Will and I absolutely LOVED this recipe. It was so easy to cook (and clean up) and it was surprising filling. I had three and I lost count of how many Will had..maybe seven? I’d highly recommend these if you’re wanting to eat clean or eliminate meat and fish.
Tuesday Dinner: Taco Salad Night! I think this was my favorite meal of the week. For our taco salad, I used chopped romaine lettuce, taco meat (2 lbs. ground beef cooked with half of a diced white onion, salt, pepper, 1 tbsp. chili powder, 1tsp. ground cumin, 1 tsp. oregano), shredded cheese and black olives. Instead of using salad dressing which can be highly processed, I got a freshly made salsa from Central Market and topped the salad with my homemade guacamole (3 avocados, half of a diced white onion, 1 diced jalapeño, 1 tbsp. Maldon salt, 1/2 of a lime squeezed and topped with chopped cilantro.)
We also loved this meal and I served it as a “build your own taco salad” so I got to make mine exactly how I wanted and Will got to do the same for his. Super easy to make, filling and very healthy.
Wednesday Dinner: The Defined Dish’s Mongolian Chicken with a carrot ginger spring salad. I’ve always loved Mongolian Beef, but had never heard about Mongolian Chicken until I saw it from the Defined Dish. As with all of Alex’s meals, it was amazing and SO easy to clean up…another one of her one pot wonders.
Because Will and I normally have some sort of a starch with our meals, I just made more chicken than I normally would and more salad to make sure we were both full and it worked out perfectly.
Thursday Dinner: Broccoli with grilled chicken and homemade Alfredo sauce. By Thursday, I was ready for some comfort food so rather than making my favorite fettuccine Alfredo, I swapped the noodles for broccoli. I never use store-bought Alfredo sauce and I’m not saying my homemade sauce is light, but it is not heavily processed.
To make the sauce, heat 1/2 stick of butter in a sauté pan over low heat and add in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream–let simmer for five minutes. Slowly whisk in 1 and 1/2 cups of freshly grated parmesan cheese. Finally add in 2 tbsp. chopped Italian Parsley, 2 cloves of chopped garlic and salt and pepper to taste.
By the end of the week, I felt refreshed, my skin looked clear and dewey and I lost three pounds. How have you stayed healthy as life gets back to normal? Leave me a comment and let me know!
It seems that weddings are back in full swing which means you’ll need a refresh on your wedding guest attire. After more than a year of cancelled weddings and delayed engagements, it is so exciting to think about celebrating with loved ones and having weddings again.
A major wedding trend I’m seeing for this summer is the destination wedding, which I love! I’m all for traditional weddings, but destination weddings allow you and your guests let your hair down a bit more and you all get to enjoy a vacation together. For a destination wedding, I like to wear fun, elevated maxi dresses…here are a few I would wear if I were going.
Another wedding trend for this summer will be intimate daytime weddings held outdoors. For this occasion, I think wearing a beautiful sun dress is the best option. I love sticking to pastels for weddings, but since it’s summertime, maybe throw in a subtle pop of neon too.
For a more traditional wedding, I think the most popular dress code is cocktail attire. I can’t even remember the last time I wore a cocktail dress so it was so fun to look through cocktail dresses today. Here are a few I would wear for a wedding this summer.
Now for black tie…if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I loathe reading “black tie” on an invitation. Not because I don’t love getting dressed up, but because it is often misinterpreted. Nine times out of 10 when you are invited to a black tie wedding, most of the female guests are just dressed in really nice cocktail dresses and you show up in a gown and feel like a fool. BUT for the one time out of ten that guests are actually in gowns, I live for that wedding and I am here for it.
Just as an aside to all brides…please don’t say you are having a black tie wedding if it isn’t super formal! It is really confusing to guests and pretty unnecessary. So if your wedding starts before 6 p.m. or isn’t a formal seated dinner, consider putting “elevated cocktail” as your dress code.
Now back to ACTUAL black tie or white tie wedding guest dresses…. here are a few of my favorites that I would love to wear this summer! Let’s start with this beautiful blush number by Katie May. I love Katie May because her dresses are made well, look amazing and come at an even better price point. If you’re wanting to spend a bit more, I also love formal dresses by Chiara Boni La Petite Robe. They come at a moderate price point and look amazing on all body types. Now, if you’re wanting to SPLURGE…take a look at this citrus inspired gown by Oscar de la Renta!! I mean, it is the dress of my dreams. If I had been invited to a fancy wedding on the Amalfi Coast in Italy this summer, I would definitely be showing up in this.
Are you going to any weddings this spring or summer? Which dress code is your favorite?
