Miami Packing List

Miami Packing List

Miami here we come! When I think of Miami, color is the first thing that comes to mind so I’m packing my bags to the brim with my favorite summer clothes and counting down the seconds until I’m on the beach.

I think one of the keys to an easy weekend trip is to not check any luggage. But that is a lot easier said than done. I always travel with my Away Bigger Carry-on because it gives me plenty of room to fit a complete weekend wardrobe. I’m also bringing my favorite beach bag as my smaller carry-on so I don’t waste any space in my suitcase. I bought my Naghedi bag last summer as a beach bag, but I ended up wearing it around town all the time. It is great because it is water resistant, the sand flakes right off of it and it looks so sharp.

To keep your packing concise, I recommend planning your activities and outfits in advance, packing outfits in a similar color palate so you only have to bring one pair of going out shoes and one evening bag. Since we’re going to Miami, I’m packing colorful outfits that work well with neutral accessories. For this trip I’m bringing my favorite Bottega dupe from Amazon and the Castañer lace-up wedges. These shoes seamlessly transition from day to night and are the perfect accent to all of the clothes I packed.

What are your favorite things to do in Miami?! Leave me a comment and let me know!

Bridgerton Style in 2021

Bridgerton Style in 2021

Bridgerton might be the best thing that happened to television in 2020. The Regency period drama directed by the great Shonda Rhimes has brought intrigue, nostalgia and glamour to an otherwise bleak time. I have now watched it three times and since I can’t hop over to the Modiste for a new dress, I’ve scoured the internet to bring Regency glam to 2021.

Empire silhouettes are the hallmark of Regency style clothing. As evidenced by the clothing in Bridgerton, many of the ladies at the time favored pastel colors and delicate, flowy fabrics. In addition to the empire style, corsets were used during this period to shrink waistlines and accentuate the female figure.

Since the show aired on Christmas Day, “Regencycore” has been trending as the latest fashion phenomenon. Luckily, many designers have already added Regency-inspired designs to their collections. From Empire waistlines to bow embellishments and pretty pastels, you too, will be able to look like you’re heading out to promenade along the Thames.

What did you think of Bridgerton? Will you be rocking the Regencycore style?! Leave me a comment and let me know!

Snow Day in Austin

Snow Day in Austin

Snow has come to Austin! When I checked the weather the other day and saw snow on the report for this weekend, I thought it might be a light dusting, but we have had actual snowfall all day. It is beautiful and we have had the best day as a family playing in it (Charlie for the first time ever!)

Growing up in Utah, I loved skiing, but a whole winter of snow and cold temperatures was never really my thing. Now that I know I’ll be back in 65 degree temperatures by Thursday, one day of snow actually seems pretty nice. To stay warm, I broke out all of my winter clothes that I normally pack for trips to Montana and Utah, and my husband has been cooking his bolognese all day.

Grey Pom Hat, Sunglasses, Black Jacket, Black Scarf, Black Leggings, Smartwool Socks, Sorel Boots, Grey Gloves

One thing I’ve learned about surviving cold weather is that it’s more important to be warm than cute… something I wish I would have grasped in middle school. A few years ago I finally broke down and bought the Sorel boots with rubber soles and fur tops. I always thought they were the most atrocious boots, but they have saved my life and mood in the cold! I used to try to wear my Ugg boots everywhere, but once they are wet, you get SO cold!! These boots may not be the cutest, but they keep you warm and dry all day. Underneath my boots, I always wear Smartwool socks, they are the best and wool is a great insulator.

No matter the season, you’ll find me in my Lululemon Align leggings. They work for a yoga class in the summer and for skiing in winter, and especially well for lounging around the house all day. I’m so sad that my Burberry jacket isn’t made anymore because it is one of my all time favorite pieces. It works for several climates because of the liner that is easily removable and it is water-resistant with a stylish hood.

To accessorize my winter look, I threw on my favorite Zara scarf, fluffy hat, Gucci dupe sunglasses and cozy cashmere gloves. I will say that cashmere gloves are not the most practical option in the snow and they are dry clean only, but they are SO soft and feel like blankets on my hands so I love wearing them.

Our first snow day as a family of three!

Of course on a day like this, you have to cook something that will warm your soul so my husband made his bolognese. Several years ago when we were in Napa after hitting a few vineyards on a freezing day, we had lunch in Yountville at Bottega and we had the best bolognese we’ve ever had. After that lunch, Will studied the bolognese and the ingredients they used and obsessively watched Frank Prisinzano cooking videos to create the perfect bolognese.

Will says that contrary to public opinion, bolognese is a meat-based sauce, not a tomato-based sauce. Much like Frankie P, Will does not consider this a recipe, but rather a method so it’s not like the other step-by-step recipes I’ve shared with you all before.

Will whipping up his delicious bolognese!

Will’s Bolognese Method

Ingredients:

¼ lb. Pork

¼ lb. Ground Beef

¼ lb. Lamb

4 Carrots

4 Stalks of Celery

1 Yellow Onion

A few pinches of salt

Pepper to taste

Olive Oil

Whole Milk

White Wine

Chicken Broth

1 can Tomato Paste

1 Bay Leaf

Parmesan Cheese

To Make:

  • Heat olive oil in a deep pan and add salt and pepper. Add all three meats to the olive oil and sauté until brown.
  • Roughly chop vegetables and add them to a food processor. Pulse until blended. Add vegetable mixture to the browned beef.
  • Add white wine to the beef and vegetables and cook until there is no moisture.
  • Add tomato paste and combine.
  • Add milk and broth to the mixture and turn heat to low.
  • Add bay leaf and let mixture simmer for at least 30 minutes but could be several hours if you want.
  • Serve over pasta of your choice and top with freshly grated parmesan.
  • Enjoy!!
Voila! Will’s perfect Bolognese!

I hope you all love this bolognese “method” as much as we do and that you are all staying warm tonight! Happy Sunday friends, I hope you have a great week ahead of you!

New Years Eve Looks

New Years Eve Looks

2020 is coming to an end in just two days. Can you even believe it?! In addition to being rid of what has been the toughest year for many of us, we will finally get a chance to celebrate a new year beginning. Whether you’re celebrating at home, going to dinner or getting together with a few friends, I am sharing some beautiful outfit options for you to wear during this festive time.

This year my husband and I will be celebrating New Years Eve with Champagne and shucking oysters on the beach. We are in the northern part of Florida so the days are sunny and beautiful with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. I’ll be wearing an outfit much like the one below…a chic sweater, my favorite Levi’s and some slippers that are easy to slip on and off when I’m walking in the sand. I don’t know if I’m the only one, but lately, I’ve been needing to carry a big bag with me to hold everything I need from masks to wipes and toys for my dog and this tan Ampersand Apostrophe tote is perfect for me!

If you’re going out for the night, I’ve chosen one look based on what I wore last year and a new one based on a shining golden star.

Last year we had the most wonderful dinner in New Orleans with friends for New Years Eve. I wore a Retrofête dress with black heels and absolutely loved my look. I think if I did it again, I would have added green earrings to add a little color to my look.

I ABSOLUTELY love this look and would definitely be wearing it if we were going out this year. I normally wear darker colors on NYE, but something about the golden starriness of this look makes me happy and hopeful for a new year. Of course I had to pair it with the starry night clutch, because what else would you wear with a starry look?

Star Tiara, Silk Sleeping Mask, Feather Pajamas, Star Blowers, Black Mule Heels

Because of COVID, I’m guessing that most of us will be staying in on NYE night. But staying in doesn’t mean you can’t dress up! I am totally obsessed with this party at home look and will probably be wearing it myself on NYE. Let me just start with the shoes…run, don’t walk to get these! They are Sam Edelman and currently on sale at Nordstrom. I bought myself a pair and are SO happy with them. They look like the very trendy Amina Muaddi heels but for a fraction of the price. Whether you’re wearing them with feather pajamas and sipping champagne on your couch or pairing them with leather leggings and going out to dinner, these shoes are stunning!

I also highly recommend getting yourself a pair of Sleeper feather pajamas. They are so fun and luxurious that I know you will love them. I save mine for special occasions like my birthday or Christmas, but they are also quite perfect for NYE at home. Throw on a starry tiara, a sleeping mask and some festive blowers and you will no doubt be the best dressed at home.

I hope you all love these looks and have a safe, happy and healthy NYE and an even better 2021!!

COVID-Friendly Holiday Presents on a Budget

COVID-Friendly Holiday Presents on a Budget

2020 has been a tough year for all of us. Record unemployment numbers and a volatile stock market have made finances hard for everyone. With the holidays coming up, you might be wondering how you will be able to show others around you that you care about them without breaking the bank.

Miniature Tate’s Chocolate Chip cookies are the perfect gift for your co-workers and neighbors this year. Not only are they delicious, but when bought in bulk, they come out to be $1 per bag on Amazon. In addition to being budget-friendly, these individually packaged goodies are also COVID-friendly. While baking is a lovely thing to do for your friends, I wouldn’t recommend it this year. Whether it’s a possible exposure to COVID or Salmonella in the eggs you use, you just don’t want to risk spreading illness through baking. So save yourself the hours of work in the kitchen and buy pre-packaged goodies this year.

Whether you’re on a budget or not, these crispy cookies make a wonderful treat that I know your acquaintances will enjoy. I love them because they are already packaged in adorable green bags so all you need to add is a red ribbon and a hand-written note to share your appreciation for the recipient and you’re all set!

Last year I gave mini Tate’s cookies to my co-workers as well as my husband’s and they were a hit so I figured I’d do the same thing this year. It took me about 20 minutes to cut the ribbons and tie the bows on each bag and in total, I spent less than $30 to create 24 gifts.

For a full video on how I assemble these treats, check out my instagram page. I hope you love this budget and COVID-friendly idea and let me know what your friends think about it!

Brit’s Holiday Gift Guide for Stocking Stuffers

Brit’s Holiday Gift Guide for Stocking Stuffers

Can you believe Christmas is a mere three weeks away?! Growing up and even still today, Christmas stockings were one of my favorite parts of the holiday. I think I love stocking stuffers so much because they are like little extra gifts that you weren’t expecting, but that can be so amazing! Today I’m sharing stocking stuffer gift guides for women, men and children.

Hayley Menzies Tee, Laneige Lip Set, Beautybio Eye Masks, Stoney Clover Travel Pouch, Crushed Candy Cane Candle, Silk Face Mask, Beauty Blender Set,
Kiehl’s Lip Balm Set, Barefoot Dreams Socks, Jelly Bow Flip Flops

A t-shirt might seem slightly odd as a stocking stuffer, but I absolutely LOVE this Hayley Menzies leopard tee! I think it is an amazing stocking stuffer that so many women of all ages would love. You can pair it with jeans, a fun leopard skirt, leather leggings or even sweats and it is so chic.

Whether you’re traveling right now or just organizing your life, a clear pouch is so useful. Stoney Clover makes the cutest bags, pouches and masks and what I love most about them is that you can personalize them any way you like. From pink plush letting to rainbows and hearts, you can create the bag of your dreams or for the lucky ladies in your life.

Little beauty treats are always fun in a Christmas stocking so I would suggest throwing in some lip balms for sure. My personal favorites are from Kiehl’s and Laneige. Most women use beauty blenders to apply their makeup so this Beauty Blender combo set is the perfect gift. I love candles and seem to buy them for everyone for every occasion so when I found this crushed candy cane candle, I was way too excited! It is the perfect little holiday treat for everyone.

Since we’re all wearing face masks right now, why not have a nice one? I have been loving the Slip silk face masks and they’re definitely pricier than the average mask, but they make a beautiful gift and are very well made.

Of course we can’t forget about the feet and during the winter months I live in fuzzy socks and the Barefoot Dreams socks are the gold standard. They come in multiple colors and your loved ones will love them. I know flip flops are a little random as a stocking stuffer, but these adorable bow sandals from Amazon are too cute not to share! I just got a pair and can’t wait to wear them in Miami next month. They also come in a number of colors, but the nude is my favorite.

Airpods, Jack Black Skin Care Set, Black Tea Lip Balm, Sleeve of Golf Balls, Whiskey Soaked Campfire Jerky, Sustainable Socks,
Watercolor Playing Cards

Not that AirPods need much of an explanation, but basically if anyone in your life doesn’t have these, get them a set! I LOVE mine and it is so nice not having to mess around with wires anymore.

I don’t use male skin care products, but I do buy them for my husband and I have been loving the Jack Black products for him. They smell like a light, refreshing tea and my husband’s skin looks great. This kit or the lip balm will be a great addition to your man’s Christmas Stocking.

If you have a golfer in your life, I think a sleeve of golf balls is a great idea for a stocking stuffer. Men always run out of golf balls whether they’d like to admit it or not so these will be much appreciated.

If you’re looking for great gifts for the men in your life, I would highly recommend checking out Manready Mercantile. My husband and I know the owners well and they have the most unique gifts. From handmade candles to leather goods and fashions, this store has it all. I will definitely be getting my hubby the Whiskey Soaked Campfire Jerky and a set of sustainable socks. I know that sounds random, but I bought him a pair last year when Manready had their pop-up at the Nutcracker Market and I actually liked them so much that they are now basically mine so grab yourself a pair too! If you’re looking for another sock option for your man, I really like these playing card socks from Saks.

If a man in your life is from Texas, Louisiana or Florida or has some affinity for this part of the country, I would definitely suggest getting them a set of these beautiful watercolor playing cards. My husband is from New Orleans and his family has a home in Florida and many of them live in Texas now so I’ve bought several sets of these cards for his family this Christmas and I cannot wait to see how they react!

The Very Brave Lion, Plush Lion, Kitty Cat Face Mask, Dinosaur Face Mask, Reindeer Sparkle Pops, Electric Toothbrush, Christmas Growing Tree Kit, Sushi Kit,
Boys Graphic Briefs, Disney Princess Bikini Briefs, Pet Vet Play Set

I have it on very good authority (from my bestie Ava who is three) that The Very Brave Lion is a great book. Pair it with this plush lion and I think you will have a very happy little one.

Since were all wearing face masks, grab your little ones a fun animal one! I love the kitty cat and dinosaur options from Nordstrom.

For some fun toys for the kiddos, I love this Christmas tree growing kit, sushi bento box play set and of course the pet vet play set.

For more practical needs, these fun electric toothbrushes will liven up bathroom time for your littles and I think they will also love these undies sets!

I hope you’ve loved all of my gift guides! What have been your favorite items so far and what do you need more of? Leave me a comment and let me know!!

Brit’s Thanksgiving Day Outfit Inspo

Brit’s Thanksgiving Day Outfit Inspo

Can you all believe Thanksgiving is this week?! I can’t quite wrap my mind around it, but it’s here so I’ve started my outfit planning. As most of you know, our pup Charlie fractured his leg last week and had to have surgery so I’ve decided to stay in Texas for Thanksgiving rather than traveling with him to see my family. I’m so bummed I won’t get to see them, but I think we will have a fun little holiday at home!

Because this year has been so crazy, I feel like there aren’t any rules when it comes to holiday dressing. Some people are celebrating virtually or having micro celebrations in person. Depending on what your Thanksgiving crew is like, you might be keeping it casual this year, dressing up or something in between.

Casual

I’m guessing for most of us that comfort is key this year. I plan on wearing this outfit for the first part of the day while I’m prepping dinner and the house. I recently bought this amazing tie dye sweatshirt from Pilot and Powell in New Orleans and am totally obsessed with it! I’m pairing it with my favorite cropped Frame jeans and tan mules for an effortless, comfortable look.

Festive

I think we all know this by now, but this Sister Jane dress is my favorite dress I’ve bought this fall and I plan to wear it for dinner on Thanksgiving day. It is currently on sale so hurry up and grab yourself one! I love the plaid and green for Thanksgiving because it makes me feel festive and homey. I love pairing this dress with cowgirl boots to get some modern prairie vibes.

Dressy-Casual

If you’re in a warmish climate like me and want to be dressy and comfortable, look no further than this ADORABLE kitten dress from Ganni! I also picked up this dress at Pilot and Powell and know that it will be something I wear on repeat. I’m wearing it here with a tan waist belt and tan slides for and effortlessly chic look.

Dressy

If you are getting dressed up this Thanksgiving, I would suggest keeping things classic. One of my go-to classic looks for the holidays is throwing on my leather leggings, an oversized white button down, black Manolos and adding a hair bow for good measure. This look is so timeless and will be sure to wow the family and look great in photos!

Tie die sweatshirt, Cropped Jeans, Tan Mules, White Shirt Dress, Tan Waist Belt, Tan Slides, Green Plaid Dress, Tan Cowgirl Boots, Black Hair Bow, Oversized White Button Down, Black Leather Leggings, Black Heels

How are you celebrating Thanksgiving this year?! Leave me a comment and let me know!

Fall Wedding Guest Dresses by Dress Code and Price Point

Fall Wedding Guest Dresses by Dress Code and Price Point

I know it sounds crazy because of the recent spike in COVID cases, but I went to a wedding last weekend (my first since January). I have to admit that I was nervous to go, but since it was the wedding of one of my husband’s best friends, I sucked it up, treated myself to some fancy new face masks and tagged along with my hubs.

The wedding ended up being beautiful and in a huge church so guests had room to spread out. Everyone wore masks and had temperature checks and the reception was all outdoors so I felt really comfortable being there. Attending this wedding made me think about dressing up again because lord knows it has been a minute since most of us have been able to do that and I wanted to share some beautiful dresses with all of you in case you’re attending a wedding this fall!

Me and my hubby at a wedding last weekend. **We did wear face masks at the wedding at only took them off for this picture!**

While I ended up wearing one of my favorite dresses from a last year, I was a little stressed about what to wear.

The invitation said black tie, which traditionally means formal and floor-length, but I had a gut feeling that I would be overdressed in a gown, which my husband and mother-in-law confirmed. As my mother-in-law said, black tie is more for the men to wear tuxedos and for the women to wear elevated cocktails dresses in New Orleans, but that may not be the case where you are. I think good indicators of what a dress code really means are the time of the wedding (after 6 p.m. is definitely more formal) and the location of the wedding and reception.

Let’s start with perhaps the most common dress code, cocktail. Since most weddings are in the evening, cocktail attire is generally on the invitation. For men this means a nice suit and for women it means a nice dress, usually around knee length.

Navy Blue Lace Dress, Tan Heels, Sheer Blush Dress, Metallic Platforms, Burgundy Silk Dress, Tan Bow Heels
I love this burgundy silk dress for a fall wedding. I think it could pass for sure for a cocktail dress code and for black tie optional.

Things get trickier when couples list “Black Tie” as the dress code for their weddings. Traditionally, black tie means to wear a floor length gown, but that is often not the case at these weddings that request black tie on the invitation. For men, black tie does mean to wear a tuxedo or very nice suit, but for women it can in some cases mean a gown, but more often than not, it really means an elevated cocktail dress.

If you’re invited to a wedding that really is formal…say a night time wedding at a really fancy location like a fabulous ballroom or if the couple has rented out a museum , then you will want to go with a floor-length gown.

Navy Blue Off the Shoulder Gown, Tan Heels, Black Halter Gown, Black Strappy Heels, Black and Pink One Shoulder Bow Gown, Black Heels with Sparkly Bow

I love this black gown for weddings or any formal event you might have in the future. It is timeless, elegant and beautiful.

As we all know, weddings have been thrown for a loop by coronavirus and one trend I’ve noticed springing up is outdoor day weddings. Inspired by the outdoors and rustic decor, I would wear a casual flowy dress (even a bit prairie) with a great pair of boots to a wedding like this!

Green Plaid Dress, Tan Boots, Floral Black Shirt Dress, Navy Blue Wrap Dress, Tan Boots, Blue Bohemian Dress, Tan Boots

My favorite dress this fall! Perfect for a fun lunch out or a rustic outdoor wedding.

If you do have a wedding you’re contemplating going to, make sure you feel comfortable going and if you do go, make a plan. I made sure I had face masks and lots of hand sanitizer in my bag and tried to keep enough distance between myself and other guests. But most of all, have fun! We are living in a crazy time so we deserve to have a little *healthy and safe* fun!

I have a bunch of nieces and nephews and lots of friends with little kids and of course my sweet Charlie so I LOVE getting gifts for the little ones in my life! From kitchen play sets to Disney pajamas and sparkling water toys for dogs, these gift guides are perfect for the children and pups in your life and cover all price points.

I don’t have children yet, but I love buying gifts for the little ones in my life. Over the years, I’ve really liked bundling several things for the kids like pajamas, a book and a stuffed animal as a gift. When I was little, I treasured my books and stuffed animals so I guess I’m pushing those things on the kids in my life now, but I do think they really love getting them! I’m also DYING over these alligator slippers and in addition to getting a pair for my nephew, I might get a pair for my future son too!

1. Olive, the Other Reindeer Book 2. JellyCat Plush Puppy Dog 3. Christmas Onesie 4. Mickey Mouse Face Mask Set 5. Alligator Slippers 6. Play Kitchen Utensil Set 7. Toy Truck Set 8. Black Jeep 9. Play Kitchen Set 10. Buzz Lightyear Pajama Set 11. Puppy Dog Tie 12. Mickey Mouse Pajamas

The fuzzy donut bed from Amazon is probably the best thing we’ve bought him so far. It is only $35 and he uses it all the time! It comes in two colors and is machine washable so I cannot recommend this product highly enough. Charlie also loves his SparkleDog treats and they would make such a fun gift for your pup and to give your friends who have dogs too. We also use the Kiehl’s Cleansing Spritz on him in-between baths. It smells great and is so much easier to use than giving him a bath.

Don’t tell Charlie, but I’m wrapping all of his gifts this year in the personalized wrapping paper from Etsy! Is it not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?!
