Bridgerton might be the best thing that happened to television in 2020. The Regency period drama directed by the great Shonda Rhimes has brought intrigue, nostalgia and glamour to an otherwise bleak time. I have now watched it three times and since I can’t hop over to the Modiste for a new dress, I’ve scoured the internet to bring Regency glam to 2021.
Empire silhouettes are the hallmark of Regency style clothing. As evidenced by the clothing in Bridgerton, many of the ladies at the time favored pastel colors and delicate, flowy fabrics. In addition to the empire style, corsets were used during this period to shrink waistlines and accentuate the female figure.
Since the show aired on Christmas Day, “Regencycore” has been trending as the latest fashion phenomenon. Luckily, many designers have already added Regency-inspired designs to their collections. From Empire waistlines to bow embellishments and pretty pastels, you too, will be able to look like you’re heading out to promenade along the Thames.
What did you think of Bridgerton? Will you be rocking the Regencycore style?! Leave me a comment and let me know!
Valentine’s Day is less than one month away! I wouldn’t say Valentine’s Day is my absolute favorite holiday, but I do love it because I love all things pink! Today I’m sharing my favorite items for love day that can work as gifts for yourself or your loved ones.
I hope you all have a happy and perfectly pink Valentine’s Day this year! What are your plans for the special day?! Leave me a comment and let me know!
Snow has come to Austin! When I checked the weather the other day and saw snow on the report for this weekend, I thought it might be a light dusting, but we have had actual snowfall all day. It is beautiful and we have had the best day as a family playing in it (Charlie for the first time ever!)
Growing up in Utah, I loved skiing, but a whole winter of snow and cold temperatures was never really my thing. Now that I know I’ll be back in 65 degree temperatures by Thursday, one day of snow actually seems pretty nice. To stay warm, I broke out all of my winter clothes that I normally pack for trips to Montana and Utah, and my husband has been cooking his bolognese all day.
One thing I’ve learned about surviving cold weather is that it’s more important to be warm than cute… something I wish I would have grasped in middle school. A few years ago I finally broke down and bought the Sorel boots with rubber soles and fur tops. I always thought they were the most atrocious boots, but they have saved my life and mood in the cold! I used to try to wear my Ugg boots everywhere, but once they are wet, you get SO cold!! These boots may not be the cutest, but they keep you warm and dry all day. Underneath my boots, I always wear Smartwool socks, they are the best and wool is a great insulator.
No matter the season, you’ll find me in my Lululemon Align leggings. They work for a yoga class in the summer and for skiing in winter, and especially well for lounging around the house all day. I’m so sad that my Burberry jacket isn’t made anymore because it is one of my all time favorite pieces. It works for several climates because of the liner that is easily removable and it is water-resistant with a stylish hood.
To accessorize my winter look, I threw on my favorite Zara scarf, fluffy hat, Gucci dupe sunglasses and cozy cashmere gloves. I will say that cashmere gloves are not the most practical option in the snow and they are dry clean only, but they are SO soft and feel like blankets on my hands so I love wearing them.
Of course on a day like this, you have to cook something that will warm your soul so my husband made his bolognese. Several years ago when we were in Napa after hitting a few vineyards on a freezing day, we had lunch in Yountville at Bottega and we had the best bolognese we’ve ever had. After that lunch, Will studied the bolognese and the ingredients they used and obsessively watched Frank Prisinzano cooking videos to create the perfect bolognese.
Will says that contrary to public opinion, bolognese is a meat-based sauce, not a tomato-based sauce. Much like Frankie P, Will does not consider this a recipe, but rather a method so it’s not like the other step-by-step recipes I’ve shared with you all before.
¼ lb. Pork
¼ lb. Ground Beef
¼ lb. Lamb
4 Stalks of Celery
1 Yellow Onion
A few pinches of salt
Pepper to taste
1 can Tomato Paste
1 Bay Leaf
Heat olive oil in a deep pan and add salt and pepper. Add all three meats to the olive oil and sauté until brown.
Roughly chop vegetables and add them to a food processor. Pulse until blended. Add vegetable mixture to the browned beef.
Add white wine to the beef and vegetables and cook until there is no moisture.
Add tomato paste and combine.
Add milk and broth to the mixture and turn heat to low.
Add bay leaf and let mixture simmer for at least 30 minutes but could be several hours if you want.
Serve over pasta of your choice and top with freshly grated parmesan.
I hope you all love this bolognese “method” as much as we do and that you are all staying warm tonight! Happy Sunday friends, I hope you have a great week ahead of you!
Whether you’re celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or something else, the holidays are upon us! Because different families and types of celebrations call for different styles of clothing, I’m sharing some of my favorite looks for this holiday season from tacky to snazzy and everything in between.
For this snazzy holiday look, I went a little bit out of my comfort zone. Of course if you’ve been following me for a bit, you will have seen this sweater a few times, but I think it is ideal for the holidays. I also live in my black Manolo Blahniks–they are an investment, but some of the best money you can spend. I bought this pair six years ago and wear they all the time. Outside of these staples for me, these Spanx leggings y’all… definitely not something I would normally ever buy or wear, but I kept seeing them everywhere so I had to give them a shot. While they are a bit loud for me…literally and metaphorically, they are incredibly flattering and SO comfortable to wear! If you’re feeling like looking a little bold at your holiday celebration, I would definitely recommend these.
Now this look is a little bit more my speed and one of my favorite holiday looks I’ve ever put together! I wore this a few years ago for Christmas in New Orleans with my husband’s family. I wore this to our Christmas Eve luncheon at Arnaud’s and it was the perfect combo for such a traditional setting. Luckily, the pants, shoes and sweater I wore are still in stock, but the Theory Bow Blouse is sadly out of stock. I found a replacement and I think it would still make the look incredible.
And now for the fun stuff!! I live for tacky Christmas parties and I’m so thankful we are having a family tacky Christmas sweater party this year for Christmas Eve. Inspired by a tacky candy cane, I put this look together last year and could not have been happier with it! For the tacky Christmas party I attended last year, I wore this amazing Christmas tree looking sweater and Rachel Parcell pajama pants. They are no longer available, but I found a similar pair at Target that are so cute! Pair this with a sparkly pair of sneakers and you will be ready for a good time!
How are you celebrating the holidays this year? Leave me a comment and let me know!
Happy Friday, loves! This week I am at the beach and am sharing a few of my favorite items that I have been loving on our trip! We are in Watercolor, Florida and there are so many beautiful shades of green and blue here and that color palette has inspired most of my looks this week.
I have been wearing this Eugenia Kim Mirabel Hat every day on our trip and I am SO in love with it. I have wanted one of these hats for years, but just couldn’t bring myself to pay the full-price. Luckily, I was online the other day and got an alert that this beautiful hat with a mint ribbon was on sale so I jumped on it! I do love a good deal so while I was checking out, I googled “Eugenia Kim coupons” and a 20 percent off coupon popped up that actually worked so I got an additional 20 percent off of the already discounted price. I recommend doing this when you are shopping online because so many stores have extra coupons available and you can save yourself a lot of money.
I paired the hat with the Uber-popular Lyocell Caftan from H&M. I got this caftan on sale a couple of weeks ago for $17.99 and I am just blown away with how elegant and high-quality it is. I have also been wearing the Pamela Munson straw bucket bag non-stop and have gotten so many compliments. It is the perfect summer bag and it actually holds quite a few items.
If you are looking for a fun and affordable pool float for the summer, look no further than this incredible peacock! We brought it to the beach and have had so much fun with it. It did take a while to blow up and I would highly recommend using a pump, but it is do-able to blow it up by yourself.
What are you loving for the beach this summer? Leave me a comment and let me know!
I think quarantine-time has finally gotten to me! I actually thought yesterday was Friday, but I’m back on track today and sharing my favorite items with you.
My favorite Zara dress this season is still available and I have been wearing it non-stop. I love this dress because it is light-weight which is essential for a Texas summer, it’s feminine and machine-washable so it is super low-maintenance. On the Zara website, it is not shown with a belt, but I’ve worn it with a couple of my own belts and I really think it makes the dress more flattering. I’ve styled it here with the Loeffler Randall Penny Knot Mules in rose gold. These shoes are worth the hype and they are currently on sale at Shopbop.
I’m also loving this one-pice swimsuit from Haight–it is incredible. I have it in black and will be getting the white too. Because I’m 5’8″ I ordered the medium and it fits perfectly. This Roberta Roller Rabbit robe is perfect for summer and I’m loving the color.
During the summer, most of the clothes I wear are in light colors because of how hot it gets here. I’m loving this monochromatic look with the bow-sleeved Cinq a Sept top, which is currently on a major sale at Saks, paired with the L’Agence Marguerite High-Rise Skinny jeans. I bought a pair of these jeans a few years ago and they are one of my all-time favorite jeans. They are pricey, but totally worth the investment. Speaking of Saks, this adorable LoveShackFancy swimsuit is also on sale right now and is too cute for hitting the pool or beach this summer.
If you are looking for a new white wine, look no further than this Honig Sauvignon Blanc. At $15 a bottle, this wine is crisp, light, refreshing and honestly a great value for money. I have been drinking it for the past month and really enjoying it.
What are your favorites this week? I hope you all have a safe and happy weekend!
Is there anything better than being on the lake during a long weekend?! I just got this amazing purple Ro’s Garden coverup from Anthropologie on a major sale! This Memorial Day Weekend Anthropologie is offering an extra 50 percent off of sale items leading to some great deals on beach coverups, swimsuits, clothing, furniture and more.
These styles won’t last long so make sure you check them out ASAP! Let me know which ones are your favorites!
Depending on where you live, you might be able to go out to brunch this weekend! Here in Texas, restaurants started opening last week and this weekend, I am ready for brunch! I’ve already made reservations at Clark’s in Austin and I’m a little too excited about getting a frozen cosmo and oysters.
Since it has been more than two months since I last had brunch, I have already started planning my outfits for this weekend. From flowy dresses to pastel-colored shorts, I’m sharing my favorite outfit options for this weekend!
Are you brunching this weekend?! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the looks and how it is to get back into the swing of things!
