Amazon Favorites

Amazon has become such a staple in my life over the past year. From coffee to clothes, I buy so much more than I ever thought I would from the online superstore because it is just SO easy, cheap and cute. Every few months I do a refresh and lately, I’m loving all things green, blue and white.

I used to think it was really important to buy designer sunglasses, but now I think that is crazy. These Celine dupe sunglasses look amazing and it’s ok if you misplace them or something happens to them because you can get two for $20! Such a steal and a great staple for spring. Another must have accessory is this layered initial necklace. I bought mine last month and have been wearing it non-stop and have gotten a ton of compliments on it.

Loving my new sunnies and this necklace set.

Amazon has so many cute clothes right now! I love this white midi dress and this blue patterned dress…it looks like a Bell dress, but for 1/10th of the price. I’m having a green obsession this spring so I snapped up this scalloped edge mint green bikini which would be great paired with this white flowy cover up and also love these sage green leggings. I have both styles in other colors from last year, but the green versions are to die for!

If you’re looking to update your spring shoe collection, you don’t want to miss out on these tan bow flip flops or these Amina Muadi look-alikes. I got a pair of the bow flip flops last fall and have been wearing them every chance I get. They are perfect for the beach, running around and could even be shower shoes for the gym or dorm room as they are entirely waterproof.

These tan bow flip flops are a must for spring and under $20.

If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that I gave up coffee a few years ago to help ease my acid reflux. But over the last year, I have been treating myself to an occasional Blue Bottle iced coffee. I usually buy these little cans at Central Market, but you can also get them at Whole Foods or on Amazon. They are just the best. I serve mine with whole milk and over ice in this BPA-free tumbler and then usually head out for a long walk with Charlie.

To get organized this year, I ordered this Van Gogh Starry Night inspired Planner. It’s a little kooky, but I actually really love it! I love the binder size and the layout is perfect for me. I’ve also been slightly perturbed by the prices of planners lately like Erin Condren and Bando. It should not cost $50 or $100 to get organized. This planner is just $7!! Another life-hack tool I’m loving right now is the Üllo wine purifier. I am allergic to sulfates so wine can be dangerous for me because it is traditionally packed with sulfates for preservation. The Üllo wine purifier is said to filter out all of the sulfates so I’m really hoping it does!

I cannot say enough good things about this planner!! Under $7 and has the best built-in organization tools.

What are your favorite things on Amazon?! Leave me a comment and let me know!!

Snow Day in Austin

Snow Day in Austin

Snow has come to Austin! When I checked the weather the other day and saw snow on the report for this weekend, I thought it might be a light dusting, but we have had actual snowfall all day. It is beautiful and we have had the best day as a family playing in it (Charlie for the first time ever!)

Growing up in Utah, I loved skiing, but a whole winter of snow and cold temperatures was never really my thing. Now that I know I’ll be back in 65 degree temperatures by Thursday, one day of snow actually seems pretty nice. To stay warm, I broke out all of my winter clothes that I normally pack for trips to Montana and Utah, and my husband has been cooking his bolognese all day.

Grey Pom Hat, Sunglasses, Black Jacket, Black Scarf, Black Leggings, Smartwool Socks, Sorel Boots, Grey Gloves

One thing I’ve learned about surviving cold weather is that it’s more important to be warm than cute… something I wish I would have grasped in middle school. A few years ago I finally broke down and bought the Sorel boots with rubber soles and fur tops. I always thought they were the most atrocious boots, but they have saved my life and mood in the cold! I used to try to wear my Ugg boots everywhere, but once they are wet, you get SO cold!! These boots may not be the cutest, but they keep you warm and dry all day. Underneath my boots, I always wear Smartwool socks, they are the best and wool is a great insulator.

No matter the season, you’ll find me in my Lululemon Align leggings. They work for a yoga class in the summer and for skiing in winter, and especially well for lounging around the house all day. I’m so sad that my Burberry jacket isn’t made anymore because it is one of my all time favorite pieces. It works for several climates because of the liner that is easily removable and it is water-resistant with a stylish hood.

To accessorize my winter look, I threw on my favorite Zara scarf, fluffy hat, Gucci dupe sunglasses and cozy cashmere gloves. I will say that cashmere gloves are not the most practical option in the snow and they are dry clean only, but they are SO soft and feel like blankets on my hands so I love wearing them.

Our first snow day as a family of three!

Of course on a day like this, you have to cook something that will warm your soul so my husband made his bolognese. Several years ago when we were in Napa after hitting a few vineyards on a freezing day, we had lunch in Yountville at Bottega and we had the best bolognese we’ve ever had. After that lunch, Will studied the bolognese and the ingredients they used and obsessively watched Frank Prisinzano cooking videos to create the perfect bolognese.

Will says that contrary to public opinion, bolognese is a meat-based sauce, not a tomato-based sauce. Much like Frankie P, Will does not consider this a recipe, but rather a method so it’s not like the other step-by-step recipes I’ve shared with you all before.

Will whipping up his delicious bolognese!

Will’s Bolognese Method

Ingredients:

¼ lb. Pork

¼ lb. Ground Beef

¼ lb. Lamb

4 Carrots

4 Stalks of Celery

1 Yellow Onion

A few pinches of salt

Pepper to taste

Olive Oil

Whole Milk

White Wine

Chicken Broth

1 can Tomato Paste

1 Bay Leaf

Parmesan Cheese

To Make:

  • Heat olive oil in a deep pan and add salt and pepper. Add all three meats to the olive oil and sauté until brown.
  • Roughly chop vegetables and add them to a food processor. Pulse until blended. Add vegetable mixture to the browned beef.
  • Add white wine to the beef and vegetables and cook until there is no moisture.
  • Add tomato paste and combine.
  • Add milk and broth to the mixture and turn heat to low.
  • Add bay leaf and let mixture simmer for at least 30 minutes but could be several hours if you want.
  • Serve over pasta of your choice and top with freshly grated parmesan.
  • Enjoy!!
Voila! Will’s perfect Bolognese!

I hope you all love this bolognese “method” as much as we do and that you are all staying warm tonight! Happy Sunday friends, I hope you have a great week ahead of you!

New Years Eve Looks

New Years Eve Looks

2020 is coming to an end in just two days. Can you even believe it?! In addition to being rid of what has been the toughest year for many of us, we will finally get a chance to celebrate a new year beginning. Whether you’re celebrating at home, going to dinner or getting together with a few friends, I am sharing some beautiful outfit options for you to wear during this festive time.

This year my husband and I will be celebrating New Years Eve with Champagne and shucking oysters on the beach. We are in the northern part of Florida so the days are sunny and beautiful with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. I’ll be wearing an outfit much like the one below…a chic sweater, my favorite Levi’s and some slippers that are easy to slip on and off when I’m walking in the sand. I don’t know if I’m the only one, but lately, I’ve been needing to carry a big bag with me to hold everything I need from masks to wipes and toys for my dog and this tan Ampersand Apostrophe tote is perfect for me!

If you’re going out for the night, I’ve chosen one look based on what I wore last year and a new one based on a shining golden star.

Last year we had the most wonderful dinner in New Orleans with friends for New Years Eve. I wore a Retrofête dress with black heels and absolutely loved my look. I think if I did it again, I would have added green earrings to add a little color to my look.

I ABSOLUTELY love this look and would definitely be wearing it if we were going out this year. I normally wear darker colors on NYE, but something about the golden starriness of this look makes me happy and hopeful for a new year. Of course I had to pair it with the starry night clutch, because what else would you wear with a starry look?

Star Tiara, Silk Sleeping Mask, Feather Pajamas, Star Blowers, Black Mule Heels

Because of COVID, I’m guessing that most of us will be staying in on NYE night. But staying in doesn’t mean you can’t dress up! I am totally obsessed with this party at home look and will probably be wearing it myself on NYE. Let me just start with the shoes…run, don’t walk to get these! They are Sam Edelman and currently on sale at Nordstrom. I bought myself a pair and are SO happy with them. They look like the very trendy Amina Muaddi heels but for a fraction of the price. Whether you’re wearing them with feather pajamas and sipping champagne on your couch or pairing them with leather leggings and going out to dinner, these shoes are stunning!

I also highly recommend getting yourself a pair of Sleeper feather pajamas. They are so fun and luxurious that I know you will love them. I save mine for special occasions like my birthday or Christmas, but they are also quite perfect for NYE at home. Throw on a starry tiara, a sleeping mask and some festive blowers and you will no doubt be the best dressed at home.

I hope you all love these looks and have a safe, happy and healthy NYE and an even better 2021!!

Holiday Outfit Inspo

Holiday Outfit Inspo

Whether you’re celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or something else, the holidays are upon us! Because different families and types of celebrations call for different styles of clothing, I’m sharing some of my favorite looks for this holiday season from tacky to snazzy and everything in between.

Snazzy: Lavender Bedazzled Sweater, Spanx Leggings, Black Manolos Classic: Bow Blouse, Black Sweater, Plaid Pants, Black Manolos Casual: Grey and Blue Sweater, Skinny Jeans, Tan Boots Festive: Tacky Christmas Sweater, Red and White Striped PJ Pants, Silver Sneakers

For this snazzy holiday look, I went a little bit out of my comfort zone. Of course if you’ve been following me for a bit, you will have seen this sweater a few times, but I think it is ideal for the holidays. I also live in my black Manolo Blahniks–they are an investment, but some of the best money you can spend. I bought this pair six years ago and wear they all the time. Outside of these staples for me, these Spanx leggings y’all… definitely not something I would normally ever buy or wear, but I kept seeing them everywhere so I had to give them a shot. While they are a bit loud for me…literally and metaphorically, they are incredibly flattering and SO comfortable to wear! If you’re feeling like looking a little bold at your holiday celebration, I would definitely recommend these.

Now this look is a little bit more my speed and one of my favorite holiday looks I’ve ever put together! I wore this a few years ago for Christmas in New Orleans with my husband’s family. I wore this to our Christmas Eve luncheon at Arnaud’s and it was the perfect combo for such a traditional setting. Luckily, the pants, shoes and sweater I wore are still in stock, but the Theory Bow Blouse is sadly out of stock. I found a replacement and I think it would still make the look incredible.

Festive: Tacky Christmas Sweater, Red and White Striped PJ Pants, Silver Sneakers

And now for the fun stuff!! I live for tacky Christmas parties and I’m so thankful we are having a family tacky Christmas sweater party this year for Christmas Eve. Inspired by a tacky candy cane, I put this look together last year and could not have been happier with it! For the tacky Christmas party I attended last year, I wore this amazing Christmas tree looking sweater and Rachel Parcell pajama pants. They are no longer available, but I found a similar pair at Target that are so cute! Pair this with a sparkly pair of sneakers and you will be ready for a good time!

How are you celebrating the holidays this year? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Brit’s Thanksgiving Day Outfit Inspo

Brit’s Thanksgiving Day Outfit Inspo

Can you all believe Thanksgiving is this week?! I can’t quite wrap my mind around it, but it’s here so I’ve started my outfit planning. As most of you know, our pup Charlie fractured his leg last week and had to have surgery so I’ve decided to stay in Texas for Thanksgiving rather than traveling with him to see my family. I’m so bummed I won’t get to see them, but I think we will have a fun little holiday at home!

Because this year has been so crazy, I feel like there aren’t any rules when it comes to holiday dressing. Some people are celebrating virtually or having micro celebrations in person. Depending on what your Thanksgiving crew is like, you might be keeping it casual this year, dressing up or something in between.

Casual

I’m guessing for most of us that comfort is key this year. I plan on wearing this outfit for the first part of the day while I’m prepping dinner and the house. I recently bought this amazing tie dye sweatshirt from Pilot and Powell in New Orleans and am totally obsessed with it! I’m pairing it with my favorite cropped Frame jeans and tan mules for an effortless, comfortable look.

Festive

I think we all know this by now, but this Sister Jane dress is my favorite dress I’ve bought this fall and I plan to wear it for dinner on Thanksgiving day. It is currently on sale so hurry up and grab yourself one! I love the plaid and green for Thanksgiving because it makes me feel festive and homey. I love pairing this dress with cowgirl boots to get some modern prairie vibes.

Dressy-Casual

If you’re in a warmish climate like me and want to be dressy and comfortable, look no further than this ADORABLE kitten dress from Ganni! I also picked up this dress at Pilot and Powell and know that it will be something I wear on repeat. I’m wearing it here with a tan waist belt and tan slides for and effortlessly chic look.

Dressy

If you are getting dressed up this Thanksgiving, I would suggest keeping things classic. One of my go-to classic looks for the holidays is throwing on my leather leggings, an oversized white button down, black Manolos and adding a hair bow for good measure. This look is so timeless and will be sure to wow the family and look great in photos!

Tie die sweatshirt, Cropped Jeans, Tan Mules, White Shirt Dress, Tan Waist Belt, Tan Slides, Green Plaid Dress, Tan Cowgirl Boots, Black Hair Bow, Oversized White Button Down, Black Leather Leggings, Black Heels

How are you celebrating Thanksgiving this year?! Leave me a comment and let me know!
