Hailey Bieber isn’t the only one loving lavender this summer! As one of the season’s hottest colors, it comes as no surprise that we are all loving the pastel tones of purple too. “Millennial purple,” as it has been dubbed by Hola! Is encompassing of the hues from lilac to lavender and has been a staple in my spring and summer wardrobes this year.
One of my favorite purple pieces has been this mini dress from English Factory because of its color and light-weight cotton fabric. The ruffle detailing on it is so beautiful and this dress also just got marked down to under $60! My only complaint about this dress is that it is a bit short. I am 5’8″ and it is shorter than most dresses I am comfortable in. This is a common theme for English Factory dresses…I just wish they would make a “tall” version or add about two inches to their dresses!
In the summertime, I am a sucker for dresses. Living in Texas, the heat can be overwhelming so having a light-weight dress is the most comfortable thing for me to wear. This beautiful wildflower dress is a must-have and is less than $50! I’m also loving this lavender midi dress from Sea. It would be perfect for church, brunch or a romantic date night.
J.Crew is having a major sale this week! By using the code “BestSale” you can get up to an additional 70 percent off of sale styles that are perfect for summer. I stocked up on swimsuits and easy-breezy styles for the hot summer ahead of us.
I’m sure you all know this by now, but I LOVE J.crew. The clothes fit me perfectly and I think they are really well made. That being said, I never buy items there at full-price because they have sales all of the time. Also, if you’re a student like I am, or a teacher, you always get 15 percent off of your purchase so don’t forget to utilize that!
Although it says “end of season sale” most of the clothes included are dresses, swimming suits and summer clothing so it is the perfect time to buy them.
Here are a few new items I’m loving from the sale this week:
Summer is on its way, y’all! There are so many things I love about summer, but my favorite is probably all of the beautiful dresses I get to wear during the season. This year I’m more excited than usual because I can actually go out and wear my dresses in public now that COVID restrictions are relaxing.
When I’m shopping for summer dresses, I love getting them for a good price because in the Texas heat, you can sweat through them quickly. Here’s a round up of my favorite summer dresses for under $100!
Which dress is your favorite? Leave me a comment and let me know!
Zara is currently killing it with their spring collection. I went to the Domain the other day with one of my girlfriends to do some spring shopping so we went to Zara and Oh. My. Goodness. We were blown away with how good their new styles are!!
Because of COVID-19, fitting rooms are closed to customers so I had to buy everything that I wanted to try on and now have 30 days to return the items I don’t want. So here’s what I went home with!
Without trying on the midi dresses, I kind of already knew that I would love them because I am a midi dress queen and also because the colors were SO lovely. Can you get better than mint green, bubble gum pink and white for spring and summer dresses?! The white ribbed midi dress I actually bought last summer and wore it everywhere so I was so happy to see that they brought it back this year. It is only $17 and looks just like my James Perse dresses. The flowy white midi dress is going to be a staple for me this summer because of how chic and comfortable it is. I am also just in love with the mint green and pink midi dresses too. When I wore them last weekend, I paired them with the Tan Wrap Sandals and got tons of compliments everywhere we went.
Now the more challenging part of the try-on process came with the mini dresses! For reference, I am 5’8″ so I don’t really wear a lot of mini dresses, but the jungle print and floral dress were just too cute for me to pass on.
In the end, I decided to keep the two white midi dresses, the mint green and the pink midi dresses and the tan wrap sandals. I returned the sporty green sandals, the relaxed green pants and the two mini dresses. Do you think I made the right choices?
Leave me a comment and let me know what you’ve been loving at Zara lately!
Amazon has become such a staple in my life over the past year. From coffee to clothes, I buy so much more than I ever thought I would from the online superstore because it is just SO easy, cheap and cute. Every few months I do a refresh and lately, I’m loving all things green, blue and white.
I used to think it was really important to buy designer sunglasses, but now I think that is crazy. These Celine dupe sunglasses look amazing and it’s ok if you misplace them or something happens to them because you can get two for $20! Such a steal and a great staple for spring. Another must have accessory is this layered initial necklace. I bought mine last month and have been wearing it non-stop and have gotten a ton of compliments on it.
If you’re looking to update your spring shoe collection, you don’t want to miss out on these tan bow flip flops or these Amina Muadi look-alikes. I got a pair of the bow flip flops last fall and have been wearing them every chance I get. They are perfect for the beach, running around and could even be shower shoes for the gym or dorm room as they are entirely waterproof.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know that I gave up coffee a few years ago to help ease my acid reflux. But over the last year, I have been treating myself to an occasional Blue Bottle iced coffee. I usually buy these little cans at Central Market, but you can also get them at Whole Foods or on Amazon. They are just the best. I serve mine with whole milk and over ice in this BPA-free tumbler and then usually head out for a long walk with Charlie.
To get organized this year, I ordered this Van Gogh Starry Night inspired Planner. It’s a little kooky, but I actually really love it! I love the binder size and the layout is perfect for me. I’ve also been slightly perturbed by the prices of planners lately like Erin Condren and Bando. It should not cost $50 or $100 to get organized. This planner is just $7!! Another life-hack tool I’m loving right now is the Üllo wine purifier. I am allergic to sulfates so wine can be dangerous for me because it is traditionally packed with sulfates for preservation. The Üllo wine purifier is said to filter out all of the sulfates so I’m really hoping it does!
What are your favorite things on Amazon?! Leave me a comment and let me know!!
Labor Day is the definitive sign that summer is coming to a close. Although I don’t particularly subscribe to the belief that you can’t wear white after Labor Day, I do believe it’s a time to start transitioning your wardrobe.
I’m loving these pieces because they are good any time of year (especially in Texas) and can help you transition from Summer to Fall seamlessly.
I hope you have the best Labor Day Weekend and wear your white jeans and dresses as much as you can!
Y’all! I am so excited because one of my absolute favorite brands is having a MAJOR sale!! Tory Burch clothes fit me perfectly and they are SO chic. I always love them, but love them even more when they are on sale.
This year I tried the swimwear for the first time, I bought two Tory Burch swimsuits and am completely obsessed with them. They are expensive, but they are well made and fit me like a glove which is all you can ask for.
In Tory Burch clothing, I normally wear a 2 or an XS, I find that it runs true to size. Of all of the Tory Burch clothes I have bought over the years this garden shift dress might be one of my all time favorites! I got it on sale this spring, but it is currently marked down even more!!
I am completely obsessed with the handkerchief prink that Tory came up with this year. To me, it is so feminine and makes me want to have afternoon tea so I can’t get enough of it.
What are your favorites from this sale?! Leave me a comment and let me know. Happy Shopping, loves!
Happy Friday, Loves! I don’t know about y’all, but lately date night at home seems more fun to me than going out to dinner. I can pick any wine I want and eat whatever I want all in the comfort of my home…with my hubby and pup too! Tonight, I am making the Defined Dish Cajun Crab Cakes and Remoulade for dinner with asparagus and a big glass of my current favorite white wine, Honig Sauvignon Blanc.
Because they are light and filling at the same time, crab cakes are one of my favorite meals for a hot summer night. These delicious crab cakes not only pack a big punch of flavor, but they are also Whole30 and Paleo-compliant, like most of the amazing recipes Alex creates.
1 green onion (White and green parts), finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon capers, roughly chopped
1 teaspoon Louisiana-style hot sauce
1 teaspoon dill relish, no sugar added
½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
FOR THE CRAB CAKES
16 ounces fresh lump crab meat
½ red bell pepper, seeded and finely diced
2 green onions (White and green parts), thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more for serving
2 tablespoons arrowroot starch
4 celery stalks, ends trimmed and cut diagonally into 1-inch pieces
1 medium white onion, halved and thinly sliced (2 cups)
3 garlic cloves, very thinly sliced
For the Crab Cakes:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the crabmeat, bell pepper, green onions, mayo, cassava flour, salt, red pepper flakes, black pepper, cayenne pepper and thyme. Use a fork to mix until just combined.
Using 1/2 cup measuring cup, scoop out crab mixture and, using your hands, form into patties. Set on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for about 20 minutes so that they firm up.
Pour the almond flour on a plate. Very lightly dredge each chilled crab cake in the flour and tap off any excess flour. You don’t want them caked in flour or they’ll taste dry, just lightly dusted. Return the coated crab cakes to the baking sheet.
In a large non-stick skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. When very hot, but not smoking, carefully arrange the crab cakes in the bottom of the skillet, taking care not to crowd the pan. You will most likely have to do this in batches. Sear the patties until golden brown and slightly crispy, about 3-4 minutes on the first side. Using a sturdy spatula, carefully flip, and continue to cook on the other side for 3 more minutes. Transfer the cooked crab cakes to a wire rack to keep them from getting soggy before serving. Repeat with the remaining crab cakes.
Serve with hot remoulade and enjoy.
To Make the Remoulade:
In a medium bowl, combine the mayo, mustard, lemon juice, parsley, green onion, garlic, capers, hot sauce, relish. apple cider vinegar, paprika, salt and cayenne pepper. Stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

As summer winds down, Americans continue traveling around the country. This week for Brit’s Summer Travel Series, we are heading to one of my favorite places, the island of Palm Beach! Since I couldn’t go this summer, my friend, Hillary is helping me out on the blog this week. She has been quarantining in the ultra-luxe locale since March and has not only shared some of her favorite things to do in the area, but she has also given a lot of updates about what the area is like now during the Coronavirus pandemic.
When I think of Palm Beach, the first things that comes to mind are luxury, pink and palm leaves…a few of my absolute favorite things! But there is so much this little slice of paradise has to offer. Concentrated within 7.8 miles, Palm Beach boasts fabulous shopping, top restaurants and incredible hotels.
You will not be hard-pressed to find an amazing meal in Palm Beach. Some of the best restaurants from New York City are in Palm Beach as well as institutions like the Palm Beach Grill and Benny’s on the Beach. If you’re a seafood lover, there is nothing better than enjoying a cocktail at the Seafood Bar at the Breakers with fish swimming under your glass.
Just as a rule of thumb when traveling or day-to-day life, if there is a Hillstone restaurant in your area, go there. Whether I am in Palm Beach, Montecito or Dallas, I always go to the Honor Bar (and order the Emerald Kale with Rotisserie Chicken Salad, French fries and a glass of white wine), which is one of the many restaurants owned by the Hillstone Group. The food is always amazing, the wine lists are perfection and the service is great.
The activities to do in Palm Beach are endless. A local favorite is bike riding on Lake Trail and hanging out on the beach of course. As most of you know, I am a shopper so Worth Avenue and the Royal Poinciana. The flagship Lilly Pulitzer store is right on Worth Ave. and you can see how the designs for fabrics are made and shop some of the best Lilly styles around! At the Royal Poinciana, you can find things like LoveShackFancy, Alice and Olivia, Hermes, Stoney Clover Lane, Zimmerman and so much more…it is like my dream shopping destination!!
